"Bouquet Style" with Kate Holt

I am BEYOND EXCITED about today's featured guest...the beautiful and talented, Kate Holt of Flowerwild is here today and she is sharing her GORGEOUS bouquets with us. I simply adore Kate....she is an AMAZING designer....her floral designs are truly works of art and Kate is a total sweetheart! This is Kate's first visit at the cafe, and I'm happy to say that it's not her last!! Now let's check out the beautiful stylings of Flowerwild....Enjoy!!!!
"First off...a big thanks to Janie for inviting me to create a some inspired floral segments for her lovely wedding blog. I am a fan, as they say. This first week I wanted to focus on texture. So many of my brides this season have mentioned that my use of texture was part of what drew them to Flowerwild. Which seemed kind of strange to me, as I don't consciously decide to bring in texture. It's more of part of my natural approach to design.
Start with the backdrop or base coat then begin to lay in the focus flowers. Think of a lush garden in the French country-side. A boarder of geranium and bleeding hearts, backed by staggered hedges of wild garden roses, peony bushes, and a wall of jasmine and honeysuckle. Hmmmmmmmm ....I want to go there don't you?
My first bouquet is a fresh spring mix that began with a bed of these amazingly delicate allium, lacy tendrils of geranium, mini gladiolas, viburnum, and a few bronze toned succulent blooms.
Floating on top are the white peonies, and sweet little narcissus...all in a cuff of these begonia leaves which are a true wonder of nature. I just love their silvery tone and dark edges embracing the pure white blooms. Vintage ribbon and bronze leaf pin add a luxurious touch."

"Next is a real renaissance inspired pink bouquet. I started knowing I wanted to use this gorgeous, rose-like "Hawthorne" as the foundation for the arrangement and added in some additional delicate touches to round out this wilder beauty.
Hawthorne is the green leafed foliage dotted with diminutive pinkish red blossoms. There are some random wild sweet peas and pink grassy whisps in there (name unknown). For the bigger shapes I used coral peonies, garden roses and then a splash of bleeding hearts. I remember these from my mom's garden - more proof of Nature's limitless creativity. A lot of words to describe a bouquet that boils down to one word....romance."

 |

| "A little bit of lavender and lilac to wrap things up. I think the special touches in this arrangement really do come from the textures underneath the peonies, garden roses and weber tulips; although these are gorgeous in and of themselves. Tendrils of rosy honeysuckle, lavender scilla, sedum greens, passion vine, spirals of clematis seed heads. I love their brassy shine and the added graphic they lend to this otherwise romantic ensemble. All tied up in a vintage blue lace with beaded trim band. And that's all for this week....more Flowerwildness to come!"
|

"It was seven months ago when i received an email. it was from a bride inquiring about photography for her wedding. Emails like these always excite me but when i called Gina to talk to her personally I heard the words “maryland vineyard”. I was trying to hold back my exitement, trying not to sound pathetic or too eager … but I couldn’t. We scheduled to meet and talk more about details. I rememember when gina and linton walked into the little coffee shop, I knew immediately I would love them. I loved their cute, simple style but most of all I loved their pureness and sincerity. We talked about the details: Maryland vineyard, guests arriving on a school bus, ceremony on the hill, reception in the barn!
After seven months of waiting, I flew back to the washington dc area last week. I was able to see my cute husband, I did some fun photo sessions, met up with friends, and met Gina and Linton once again.
The day went perfect (rain was in the forecast but it ended up being a beautiful, warm, cloudy day). I was so impressed with how amazing Gina and Linton were through out the day. Family and friends are so important to them and they expressed that through every detail in their wedding. On top of being surrounded by those they loved most, they brought in vintage family details. Gina’s veil was worn by her grandmother and her mother. Hung from her bouquet was a picture of her grandmother on her wedding day. Linton used two of his grandfather’s rings and had them melted into one to create his ring. Then at the reception they hung pictures of their ancestors from their wedding days. It was all purely amazing."

"It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while I end up going to a wedding... as a guest! And, although I love my job, it's wonderful to be a guest. Mostly cause I get to wear a dress, and eat food without hopping up every 2 minutes to photograph something.
Meredith and Scott's wedding was one of the loveliest we could've been invited to for so many reasons - a May garden party in the country, filled with friends and flowers, all to celebrate the wonderful family Meredith and Scott have created by getting married. They are both so artistic and sweet. Meredith is the artist behind my soon-to-be-revealed encaustic pieces, and Scott - well, when our heater seemed to die on Christmas Eve, Scott came over in the midst of his busy day to fix it, and wouldn't let us pay him. In fact, as I recall, we gave him some Christmas cookies and he gave us some in return! We still owe you guys a big favor for that!
Anyway, the garden location was ready for a party, the bride and groom were ready to get married, and all of their friends were ready to celebrate springtime and love in cute summer dresses. But the weather didn't want to cooperate. Where was all of this rain when we needed it this winter?! No one likes to face rain on their outdoor wedding, but after just a tiny bit of panicking, Scott and Meredith (along with family and friends) just furnished the garden with lots of rain proof areas and umbrellas, and spread the word that galoshes would be very in at this wedding. I insisted on wearing a sundress, and just added a wool hooded coat, sweater, scarf, thick tights, mud boots, and umbrella. The wedding proceeded beautifully and the occasional drizzle just added to the overall romance of the wonderful day!"
