Real Richmond Wedding: Kelly & Paul

Meet Kelly & Paul...a very special couple to me...I had the pleasure and the honor to be the floral designer for their beautiful wedding.  Kelly is a sweetheart...she's truly a beautiful woman....inside and out!  I had so much fun working with her and I'm excited to share her and Paul's beautiful day with you.  One of my favorite people and photographers, Eleise Theuer, captured their special day...as always..Eleise ROCKS!!...Enjoy!!!

"Our Richmond, VA wedding took place on November 8th at Reveille United Methodist Church with a reception following at The Jefferson Hotel. We were very lucky to have one of the last warm and sunny days of 2008! My dress was made of dupioni silk and was designed by Lea-Ann Belter. I loved that dress because it was so light and comfortable!....it felt like I was wearing a sundress. The bridesmaid dresses were designed by Jenny Yoo and featured a lace bolero & matching lace hem. We custom made the cummerbunds and bowties for the groom & groomsmen. The fabric was purchased at Willliams & Sherrill Interiors and each set was handmade at Peter Blair, a local Richmond men's shop.

We were incredibly lucky to have Janie Medley Flora Design do all of the flowers for the ceremony and reception. I had my heart set on a pink theme and Janie translated that beautifully!!  Eleise Theuer was our photographer and she did a fantastic job of capturing all of the details and emotions throughout the day.

The Jefferson is a beautiful, historic hotel in the heart of Richmond's downtown. The cocktail hour was held in the Rotunda that features an ornate staircase, which Paul and I walked down after we were announced. The cocktail hour featured our two signature drinks, the "Sweet Tea-Ni", a sweet tea martini, and the "Rocky Top Sidecar", a nod to Paul's alma mater. Dinner and dancing was held in the Grand Ballroom. All of our guests (as well as Paul & I!) were dancing all night long due to our awesome band, the Kings of Swing. Everyone loved them and they made our first dance together really special. Paul and I took dance lessons for the dance, which was set to Michael Bublé's "Everything."

Kelly getting all "glamourous" by makeup artist, Erika Nixon...Erika is an AMAZING artist and she is also a sweetheart...you can contact her at makeupondemand@comcast.net

I love this image and check out Kelly's father's reflection in the car!!

Thanks Eleise for stopping by today and sharing all of the gorgeous images with us...you always make my flowers "dance" on the pages...and to Kelly and Paul...I wish all the happiness and joy to you guys...xoxoxo

Ana Parzych Custom Cakes

Hi Guys.....I'm excited to introduce you to the beautiful and oh-so-talented cake designer....Ana Parzych, of Ana Parzych Custom Cakes.  Ana's designs are GORGEOUS!!  I received an email from her a few weeks ago and I am so glad that she contacted me...the moment I saw her beautiful cakes, I knew I wanted to share her world with all of you.  Not only is Ana an amazing cake designer, she is truly a "sweet heart".

Ana has been recognized as one of the country's top cake designers and she has been featured on the Food Network and her work is featured regularly in the leading bridal and lifestyle magazines....People,The Knot, Brides, and Grace Ormonde just to name a few.

Let's check out some of Ana's beautiful designs.....Enjoy!!

TBC:  What three adjectives describe Ana Parzych Custom Cakes?

Ana:  Exquisitely designed, finely detailed, decadently delicious.

TBC:  Describe the Ana Parzych Client?

Ana:  Our client is looking for something really special and has very high standards.  She considers the cake an important part of her day, a beautiful centerpiece to be displayed throughout the reception.  She wants a cake that is not only beautiful, but delicious as well.

She may or may not have a design in mind, but she knows what details excite her.  She may have a large, lavish reception in a luxurious ballroom, or she may be having a smaller, intimate reception but considers the cake to be a very important element.

TBC:  What inspires you?

Ana:  Beautiful things from all sources, especially nature and fashion.  I live in Connecticut, within easy distance of both New York and Newport; I see plenty of beautiful things in nature, fashion, and the elegance of bygone eras.

Each season brings its own unique beauty; the first blooms of spring, the summer seashore, the rich palette of autumn, the trees glistening with fresh snow.  New York, the fashion capitol, always has something new to offer; I'm always interested in seeing the latest collections.  When creating a cake for a magazine that won't come out for six months or more, I have to offer something that's going to be fresh when the issue hits the stands, so I always try to present something new.  The bygone era and beautiful seascape, keeps me grounded in the fundmentals of classic design.

I'm also inspired by those things that excite the bride about her wedding.  When a bride is passionate when showing me a photo of her dress, her invitation, photos of a unique venue, or whatever else excited her, I get a sense of who she is and her style.

TBC:  What are the most requested cake flavors and how many flavors do you offer?

Ana:  Our cakes are a 4-layer cakes, with 3 layers of filling, often a combination of 2 fillings in one tier.  We often make different tiers of different flavors, so that both the bride and groom can get their favorites.

Cake flavors are seasonal; in the spring and summer, the white vanilla butter cake is the most popular, often a combination of 2 or more berry, citrus, or tropical mousseline fillings, such as strawberry, raspberry, passion fruit, and lemon or lime curd.  In the autumn and winter, popular combinations include golden almond cake with dulce de leche and vanilla bean mousseline, and dark chocolate cake with mocha mousseline and ganache.

We can make jsut about any cake/filling combination; they are too numerous to list.  We make everything from stratch, from the best ingredients.

TBC:  What should a bride look for when choosing her cake designer?

Ana:  Look at the designer's portfolio, and make sure that the designer has the skills to bring your vision to life.  Different designers specialize in different techniques and styles.  Schedule a consultation, to see the designer's work in person and get to know her/him.  Flavor is also very important, of course, and the consultation should include a tasting.  Also, make sure that your designer is willing to work closely with you and the other wedding professionals you have hired, including your florist, planner, the venue, etc., to make sure that they're all in synch and the day goes smoothly.

Thanks SO much Ana for stopping by the cafe today.....your cakes are all so beautiful....and it was our pleasure getting to know you a bit more....I look forward to your next visit and to tasting your beautiful cakes!
