Gorgeous "Style Shoot" at Kentuck Knob

Happy Monday Guys....hope you all had a beautiful weekend....we are opening the cafe with a beautiful "style shoot" that took place at Frank Lloyd Wright's Kentuck Knob in Pennslyvania....a charming venue to consider when planning your special day....the beautiful images were sent over by one of my favorite photographers and favorite ladies, Abby Jiu and event planner, Amber Karson shares all the details with us...Enjoy!

"It's not everyday that your event venue is designed by arguably one of the best American architects of all time.  Creating a bridal photo shoot at Frank Lloyd Wright's Kentuck Knob in
Pennsylvania was an exciting opportunity for our entire vendor team which hailed from DC, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.  Completed in 1956, the home integrates organic architecture, attention to detail and custom-made, purpose driven interior design.  It is located only four miles south of Wright's most famous house, Fallingwater.  The property also has an impressive collection of sculpture art including works from contemporary artists, a collection of English phone booths, and even a piece of the Berlin Wall! We were excited to design a look that highlighted all the various facets of the property and photographer Abby Jiu captured it beautifully."

Kentuck Knob's hexagon skylights served as a key inspiration in the design.  We incorporated this shape into the tablescape with the purple place mats.  "Guggenheim" china from the Frank Lloyd Wright dinnerware collection (inspired by another one of his masterpieces) was adorned with hexagon menu cards printed by Chelle Paperie with a Frank Lloyd Wright font on wood veneer.  We also had a three tiered hexagon cake with the same nail head trim detail you see in the place mats.

Our color palette of red and purple was fresh and unexpected.  I knew we wanted to incorporate red somehow as Frank Lloyd Wright included a signature red tile on all the homes he designed.  I also adored the red phone booths in the sculpture meadow.  When we found this antique collection of purple bottles we just had to use them!  These vintage bottles were likely made during the late 1800's.  Manganese was used to keep clear glass from turning 'bottle green", but little did they know that the chemical used to keep glass clear would cause it to turn this fabulous shade of purple or amethyst after many years in the sunlight.  The red and purple color concept for our shoot evolved from there.

We wanted to incorporate natural elements in modern ways, nothing too rustic.  You'll see wood, stone and vintage glass throughout our design. For example, most of the stationery pieces were printed on wood veneer.  We used Philippe Starck inspired ghost chairs which allowed the wood and stone of the space to show through in an artistic way.  For our ceremony at the gorge overlook, we kept it simple letting the amazing view be the star, framed by a willow branch chuppah with red dahlias, roses and purple orchids designed by Holly Heider Chapple's team.  Vintage glass doorknobs repurposed as garden stakes with coordinating ribbon lined the aisle."

AMAZING job everyone and the venue is truly lovely......Abby, thanks so much for sharing all the beautiful images with us...as ALWAYS, we love it when you stop by and visit and thanks to Amber for putting together such a wonderful "Style Team....and Holly, the flowers are GORGEOUS!!

Gorgeous DIY Wedding - Katherine & Tao

Happy Friday.....I hope you all are ready for the weekend....and to start the weekend off at the cafe, I want to share the GORGEOUS wedding story of Katherine & Tao....their celebration took place on the last day of July at a wildlife sanctuary, Belmont Habitat in Belmont, MA. Their wedding was filled with love from their friends and families and there were so many personal touches.....the beautiful florals were literally grown on a friend's farm, the desserts were made by Katherine's mother, and the wedding bands were crafted by Tao.....and the guests participated by writing good wishes on small note cards that were then hung on strings of flowers that dangled dreamily behind Katherine & Tao during their ceremony.

Capturing Katherine & Tao's wedding story is the AMAZINGLY talented and oh-so-sweet Connie Miller of Studio Atticus Photography..... Connie's work is STUNNING....she totally shows Katherine & Tao's love for each other in the images and I'm so happy to have her stop by and share her beautiful work with us....Enjoy!

Real DIY Wedding: Jessica & John

Say hello to Jessica & John....their wedding is simply beautiful....I love their purple and yellow color palette and the one detail that really made me smile was Jessica's beautiful dress and she looked AMAZING in it.....their wedding had a retro vibe to it and I'm so happy to share it with all of you....and I'm equally excited to introduce Suthi Picotte of Picotte Photography to the cafe....Suthi and her husband Sanjay captured Jessica & John's wedding story.  If you haven't had the opportunity to check out Suthi's work, you are totally in for a treat.....I love her style of shooting and you can truly see how they capture the couple's stories in the images...always STUNNING......let's check out all the magic from Jessic & John's special day.....Enjoy!!

Jessica shares a little info with us......."As John and I started to plan our wedding day we knew we wanted it to be simple, old-fashioned, and fun.

It started with picking the perfect site and we found it in Maravilla Gardens. A lush nursery turned garden in the heart of the Santa Rosa Valley. Surrounded by citrus groves, avocado groves, and strawberries fields, Maravilla was the perfect place to join our lives together and show our out of town guests the agricultural side to Southern California.

Since our site was located in citrus groves we decided to jump in and embrace it by incorporating lemons into the stationary, décor, and color scheme. We didn’t know it at the time, but Maravilla Gardens was once a lemon grove!

When it came to our clothes, John and I share a love for vintage clothing from the 50s and 60s so we searched local thrift and vintage stores to find just the perfect clothes. The moment I saw my dress online I knew it was the one. Even though I had to order it online (since the physical store was closed for remodel) I jumped in and purchased it right away. I’m so glad I did because I haven’t seen another dress like it and probably never will. I found Jake Vintage online as well and convince John it was the place to get a vintage suit for the wedding. As soon as we walked in the store we knew it was the right place to go. Jonathan was amazingly knowledgeable about men’s fashion and John instantly found his suit and they’ve be best friend since (John and his suit that is).

For everything else we tried to use as many local vendors as possible. It was very important to us to help local artisans where we could. We also tried to make as many items as we could fit into the planning time. My mother sewed lace table runners. I made my petticoat and the bouquets. John made our guest tree and tied all the little tags onto the bells. My best friend Kristin and I made pom-pom garlands and stenciled parasols. I found vintage cupcake toppers of a couple dancing and my sister painted them to match John and me. But the major project I allowed myself was to knit my veil. It took 6 months and more than 1600 yards of cobweb weight yarn, but the end result was worth it. I hope to keep it was an heirloom piece for our own children someday.

I can’t end this without mentioning my favorite part of the wedding…the bubbles. Instead of having a flower girl and ring bearer we had bubble kids. They took their job very seriously by blowing bubbles until the containers ran dry. I love looking back at Suthi’s gorgeous photos and seeing bubbles float through almost every frame. Pure magic.

John and I are so happy to be married and we we’re so lucky to be surrounded by our loving family and friends all evening. To us our wedding was exactly the old-fashioned family affair we hoped to achieve."

And now let's check out Jessica & John's wedding film...this is AWESOME!!!
