Mahlet & John's Beautiful DIY Wedding

A few weeks ago I featured Mahlet & John's sweet engagement session....you can check it out here....and today I'm excited to share their beautiful wedding with you....their wedding story is one that is simply sweet and so heartfelt....not a lot of "bells and whistles".....their wedding is simply filled with the love of their families and friends....capturing their special day is one of my favorite photographers and favorite ladies....the beautiful and talented  Bola of Onada Photography out of the PA and MD areas....Bola's work is always so beautiful and she truly captured Mahlet & John's story so perfectly......AND....head over to Essence Magazine Online to see more of their wedding day and to find out just a little bit more info on our happy couple at Essence's Bridal Bliss feature.......Enjoy!!

Mahlet shares their story with us......."Our Story:  John and I grew up in and went to neighboring high schools in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  We actually knew each other through other people for most of high school and have some of the same memories from school, even if we don't always remember the other person being there.  I was friends with John's best friend in high school and the two of us kept in touch over the years.  In February 2007, John and his friend came out to Philly in February 2007 for an engagement party and they called me up to hang out.  I thought it would be fun to see old friends from high school and never thought I would meet the love of my life.  From the moment that John and I saw each other, we were pretty taken with each other, and by the end of that night, it was over.  We've talked on the phone every day since then.  Since he still lived in Michigan and I was in Philly, we were long distance for the entire 3 years and 3 months of our relationship - John actually only moved to Philly 3 days before our wedding!

Our Wedding Story: We knew we wanted to bring in aspects of my culture (both of my parents are from Ethiopia) into our wedding so we tried to think about that in the things that we did for the cermony and the reception.  For our reception venue, we both have large families so we knew we would have to find a place to fit us all.  We fell in love with our venue, which was a little on the small side for our initial guest list and over our budget, but we had to have it there.  So we did a lot of things for our wedding ourselves to cut costs and it all worked out in the end.  I have an amazing family, who helped with everything from one of my aunts doing the flowers to a bunch of aunts helping with stamping all the favor bags to a cousin who brought back a suitcase of things from Ethiopia.  I'm still amazed at how well everything turned out - it even decided not to rain that day! :o)"

Loving the ladies iin all the blue...so pretty!

One of my favorite images of Mahlet & John...such a cute couple!!

Thanks SO much Bola for stopping by today.... actually guys, Bola is away celebrating her traditional wedding ceremony....we wish her all the best... and to Mahlet & John, we wish you a lifetime filled with happiness and joy....xoxoxo

Onada share a little info with us......"Biola and Kunle are good friends of mine and they are getting married two weeks before me in fabulous San Juan Capistrano California! For a change, I get to be on the other side of the camera as I’ll have a role in their wedding and I’m pretty excited about it : )  It’s always nice to have someone share the same amazing experiences as you at the same time i.e. wedding planning – Biola and I have been dress shopping together, gone on online shoe stalking missions, discussed DIY projects and have generally had a lot of fun so far planning our weddings.

Their engagement session was a lot of fun and took place close to the Philadelphia Art Museum along Boat House Row in Philadelphia which is a historic site located  on the east bank of the Schuylkill that consists of a row of boathouses housing racing shells (It looks absolutely gorgeous at night). I love how the pictures look like it was a nice and warm day when in actual fact were were freezing!"

What a cute engagement session....and little Zoe is too cute....Onada, thank you SO much for sharing all the beautiful images with us today...it's ALWAYS a pleasure having you stop by...guys, please head over to Onada Photography's blog site to see so much more of her gorgeous work...and to Biola & Kunle, have fun planning your special day and we hope to see your gorgeous wedding story at the cafe...xoxo
