summer bouquets with peonies

Welcome back to“Summer Loving” with Lydia & David......they are actually married....they flew to Vegas and eloped last year,  July 27, 2011.  Lydia & David are friends of mine and Lydia shared with me, that she wished her and David had "wedding images"......Dana and  I approached them about the shoot for Reverie Magazine, she was ecstatic!  Lydia is such a "girly girl", so, we knew this would be perfect for them.  They are such a fun loving couple and we wanted to express this in the shoot...so, Dana and I went into "planning mode" and after many late night calls....lots of emails and three hours of sleep the night before the shoot.....here's what we came up with!!!

We choose all things that represented “Summer Loving"….yummy color palettes of corals, yellows, pinks and oranges. We decorated the gazebo with orange and hot pink carnations (yes, carnations people!!) and multi-color pom poms and streamers.  The flowers that we used through out the design were peonies, coxcomb, craspedia (billy balls), orange parrot tulips, feverfew, and carnations!

We also incorporated pretty balloons, lanterns, cherries, and a cake that totally expresses summer loving with all the pretty shades of pink layers. The venue, Historic Mankin Mansion was perfect.  There are so many lovely details on the property...so perfect for a Virginia wedding!
Let's check out all the beautiful images captured by the AMAZINGLY talented Anne of Anne Robert Photography....Enjoy!!

Today at the cafe,  it's all about the hair and hair accessories....a few weeks ago, I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon with four beautiful ladies..... Soliél,  Ameera, Caroline, and Tryphaena....my home was filled with laughter, loud music, and lots of "guy talk"...(they were all guy talking, I was giving advice)......in between all the chatter, my girl Erika was busy with the makeup and getting the ladies ready for a fun photo shoot with Amelia of Amelia Johnson Photography....the wonderful and oh-so-talented ladies at Tiger Lilly Jewelry sent over some very lovely hair accessories for us to use for the shoot.....now, of course I couldn't resist and I made a couple of fresh floral pieces....and I have to give a HUGE shout out to Kamala Bhagat of NATURALS Salon & Spa right here in Richmond, VA.....Kamala is the sweetest and she is beyond talented....Kamala styled all the ladies' hair and she is truly GIFTED! I had such a wonderful day hanging out with so many talented ladies....let's check out all the loveliness and leave a comment letting me know your favorite look...you just might win a little something...xoxo

p.s....also check us out over at Essence...we made it on their "natural hair" page feature!!

Thursday, October, 20, 2011  |  Flowers & Décor

A couple of weeks ago, I got together with the girls and we created a little "floral bliss" to share with you...we literally put this shoot together in twenty-four hours...here's how it went down.....I called my friend and oh-so-AMAZINGLY talented photographer, Amelia, of Amelia Johnson Photography and asked if she could come over and photograph a few bouquets for me...she said yes and I really wanted to be able to have someone holding the bouquets in the photos.

I contacted my girl Erika Nixon, makeup artist extraordinaire and asked if she could get a model on such short notice to help out...well, not only did Erika get an awesome model for the shoot, she walked into my home with the most beautiful young lady.... inside and out...say hello to
Soliél ...she has a smile that lights up the night and she calls me "Mama Janie"!  We all had the best time girl chatting....so much laughter and fun....and it's always a special treat watching Erika do her thing...and when she decided to give Soliél  a "bright and bold lip color, well, we couldn't wait to start the shoot.

So, it begin...it was so exciting watching Amelia and
Soliél work together...seriously, it was pure joy...seeing Amelia directing Soliél and watching how natural Soliél is in front of the camera was truly music to my ears....and, of course, seeing how Amelia captured all the florals.....just so magical!

Thank you so much Amelia, Erika and Soliél....what a fun afternoon I had with all of you and it was so wonderful making new friends and building new relationships on a beautiful fall day.....I'm also excited to share that you can also see more from this feature over at one of my favorite sites, Munaluchi Bridal.....so make sure you head over to check it out.......Enjoy!

Tuesday, September, 20, 2011  |  Weddings

Hi guys, I'm taking you on a trip back down "Memory Lane" today with the beautiful wedding story of Lauren & Jonathan....their wedding was originally featured in January of last year and I'm so excited to share with you that their lovely day is being featured in the GORGEOUS new online issue of Smitten Magazine....and you can view it here....now let's check out the original post..and thanks so much to the lovely ladies over at Smitten for featuring Lauren & Jon's beautiful day....xoxo

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome back to the wedding story of Lauren & Jonathan....their wedding was so special to me because I was given the opportunity to work with so many talented and sweet individuals and we literally came together and made it happen in two weeks!  When I got the call from Elizabeth Messina telling me that she was coming to Virginia to shoot her brother's wedding and asked if I could design the flowers....well, it took me all of two seconds to say YES....Lauren's mom had planned on being the "florist" for the wedding, so she was more than happy to give that assigment up!

After speakiing with Elizabeth, I called wedding planner and stylist, Courtney Spencer of Merriment Events and we immediately went into "planning mode"....we had two weeks to make it all happen and between the phone calls and emails with who I refer to as the "Dream Team" of vendors, we made Lauren & Jonathan's wedding day story truly "picture perfect".

Thanks to everyone for your time and your beautiful talents....we could not have done this without you and thanks to Lauren & Jonathan for letting us be a part of your special day.  Now let's check out all the magic of Lauren & Jonathan's wedding day and all the info on this wonderful group of wedding vendors that made it all happen...Enjoy!!

The cute "Mr." and "Mrs." signs Jonathan & Lauren are holding were designed by my beautiful and talented friend Nana of Family Attic Shoppe.  Guys, please visit her site...her signs are too cute and such a perfect detail for your wedding or event.
