Hi All, I'm so excited for today's feature...I'm officially bringing back our "Meet The Designer" series back and I'm delighted to have the oh-so-beautiful and talented, Ashley Beyer of Tinge Floral Design stop by and share a little bit of her world with us!!  It's so hard to believe that Ashley has only been in the "floral game" for little over a year....her work is GORGEOUS and I love her style!!  Ashley designs beautiful wedding floral in Salt Lake/Park City, UT and she does travel, so give her a call!! Let's check out the lady behind Tinge Floral Design, say hello to Ashley Beyer!!

Ashley Beyer

TBC: What's a typical day like for you?

AB:  A typical day for me really depends on the week/time of year!  You can either find me at the local gelato shop meeting with clients, at my home sending emails and working on proposals or working on flowers for an event or a shoot.

TBC:  What wedding trend would you like to see disappear?

AB:  I'd like to see peach and sea foam as a color pallet disappear. I think it's definitely pretty which is why so many brides gravitate towards it, but there are so many other directions brides can go!  Also succulents, I love you little guys, but not for weddings anymore!

TBC:  Describe your client?

AB:  My client is laid back, loves good design and simplicity, and values details. I think the smallest details at a wedding generally make the greatest impact.

TBC:  Where do you find inspiration?

AB:  I find inspiration from everything. I think in the creative industry we all tend to inspire each other. There are
definitely many designers out there that I find incredibly talented, but I try not to focus too much on the work of others. I think this year for me has really been about finding myself in this industry and being able to provide something unique.

TBC:  Name one of your favorite “vendor” sources that you just can’t do without.

AB:  I scour the internet on the daily honestly trying to find unique vessels and candles. I've really liked Ebay actually. I've found some of my favorite pieces there.

TBC:  Describe your design style.

AB:  When people tell me what they feel my design style is, they almost always say "luscious". I like to use a lot of blooms in my designs accompanied by unique greens in an asymmetrical and whimsical design. I always seem to gravitate towards clean white backdrops and simple color schemes.

TBC:  To date, what has been the highlight of your career?

AB:  The highlight of my career has really been the success of my first year as a whole. I definitely did not anticipate it and I don't think anyone else did either!

TBC:  What was your “big break”?

AB:  I've been at this for just over a year now, and I've been very fortunate. It's been a wonderful first year and I'm so grateful. I think one of my favorite moments was back in March of last year with Martha Stewart Weddings starting following me on instagram and then proceeded to blog about my site launch. Needless to say I was freaking out in my living room. I thought if Martha's people are taking notice, I've got to be doing something right.

TBC:  What advice would you give to upcoming floral designers?

AB:  You have to keep producing work and to keep practicing. I'd also recommend to not get too involved in what everyone else is doing. It's easy to get discouraged when you are seeing other florists doing grand weddings in awesome locations, and think why not me? Social media is a blessing and a curse for this. You just have to keep at it. Give the people what the people want!

TBC:  When I’m designing, I love to light my candles and play “old school” music.  Do you have a ritual that you like to do when designing?

AB:   I'm messy. Very, very messy. I like to listen to music sometimes, but I mostly just like to stand and arrange and listen to my own thoughts. I just get in the zone more than anything when I'm just focused on what I'm doing. If I'm listening to music though it's often Vampire Weekend, Florence and The Machine or the like. Sidenote, if there was a band that really was Ashley, it would definitely be Vampire Weekend!

TBC:  What’s your favorite part about weddings when it comes to the florals?

AB:  I think the florals really make the wedding decor. With a good centerpiece or floral installation, it can really make it. I like that floral sort of delves into all table decor too. I think candles paired with a sprig of greenery on each plate really brings it all together. It's all in the details!

TBC:  Describe a “wedding weekend and how many additional staff do you hire?

AB:  I am so independent that a lot of times I just think I can do it all on my own, but of course we all need help sometimes. For a smaller wedding, I'll hire one to two helpers, and for a bigger wedding four to five.

TBC:  If you had to make a career change, what would you do?

AB:  I changed my direction so many times before landing where I'm at. I was so nervous to delve into this industry for many reasons for years. I kept coming back to it though one way or another and one day I just decided to stop fighting it and just go with it, and I'm so glad that I did. I did get my Bachelors Degree in PR, so I imagine I'd be working in that industry.

TBC:  Finish this statement: A bride’s bouquet should reflect……

AB:  Their personal style and the day as a whole.

TBC:  Describe your personal style…what are your favorite stores to shop at?  Personal as in your fashion style or your home.

AB:  My personal style is classic and tailored with an occasional unique piece in there. I like neutral colors paired with brights, lipstick has become a must, and ankle boots are my go to. I think (like most people) you can always find me browsing the sale racks at J. Crew and Anthropologie. As far as my home goes, I don't like to shop at all one place. We have a lot of antique pieces mixed with more modern ones as well. I think West Elm has great stuff as well as Anthropologie. Even Target!

TBC:  Just for fun:

Do you prefer tea or coffee?

AB: Neither, I like water with a lemon.

TBC:  Do you prefer blogs or magazines?

AB:  I think they both have their place. I think blogs are more effective at reaching a broad audience, but it's fun
to see my work in a printed magazine too.

TBC:  Chocolate or Vanilla?

AB:  Chocolate, I always think it's weird when people order vanilla anything.

TBC:  And, I have to ask…what’s your favorite flower?

AB:  After months of ordering flowers for a year, I think it always comes back to ranunculus. It's the one flower that keeps me gasping for air! They are all so unique and come in the prettiest colors.
