"Vintage Style" with Whirlingturban

Hello My Lovelies....I'm so excited to share this "Vintage Inspired" photo shoot with you...and the inspiration for this shoot are the gorgeous "Vintage Style" Whirlingturban dresses by Katherine Robinson. Katherine is truly an AMAZING designer...her designs are for the true "vintage clothing enthusiasts". Katherine sent over two of her gorgeous designs for the shoot.....working on the shoot was my beautiful friend and talented stylist, Courtney Spencer of Merriment Events.....my girl and oh-so-fabulous makeup artist, Erika Nixon (contact Erika at makeupondemand@comcast.net)! Capturing all the beauty and fun, my friends and AMAZNG photgraphers, Kelly and Ryan Portnoy of Kellan Studios...and our beautiful models Lydia and Sara, who braved the cold for us in order to get the outdoor shots and me, JMFlora Design.
We all wanted the shoot to be fun and focus on the beauty of the dresses....we used the perfect accessories......vintage hat boxes, pill box hats, a couple of pretty bouquets and Courtney had a copy of LOOK Magazine...how cool was that! We had a fun day...and the dresses are just so beautiful...I love them...Enjoy!!

It's All About The Handbag....The Passchal Handbag!

|
I wish you all could meet my co-worker, Linda....she is a total sweetheart and no matter what she is going through, a new handbag makes it all better....to say that Linda LOVES handbags is truly an understatement! When Linda came back to work after the holidays, of course she had a new handbag to show us...all I could say was "OMG...where did you get that handbag from".....to my surprise, Linda told us it was designed by a company right here in Richmond, VA called Passchal....and get this...the handbags are made from recycled inner tubes....AMAZING......and so wonderful for the environment!!!! Trust me ya'll...these handbags are GORGEOUS and I contacted the owners immediately.
I'm so excited to introduce you to the Angela Greene and Ken Korbrick, the founders and designers of Passchal...check out my interview with Ken and please visit their site to see their gorgeous collection of handbags and to read about their story...Enjoy!
TBC: Tell us a little about Passchal and how it was started?
Ken: My partner & boss, Angela, purchased a backpack made from inner tubes back in 1999 & proclaimed that we can make our own styles out of this unique material (inner tubes are you kidding?). We experimented with basic shapes in the beginning such as square, circle, triangle etc.
The first designs were awful. Neither of us quit our day jobs & the bags slowly evolved. In 2004 I got laid off from my welding job & we decided to dive in full time. We had no formal design or business training so we went in with eyes wide open not knowing how tough it would be trying to compete with the big guys. We wanted to create styles that were upscale versus crafty. Combining fine leather with the inner tubes was key in doing this.
|

 |

TBC: Describe the Passchal customer.
Ken: That is still unfolding although we try to target the upscale masses, we have had customers from 18 to 80 & from New York to Japan.
TBC: What are the three adjectives that describe Passchal’s style?
Ken: Quality, function & durability. We have a lifetime guarantee as well.
|

TBC: What is the best part about your job?
Ken: When someone who has never heard of us sees a bag, their response is always the same, disbelief that that bag is made from tractor inner tubes.
TBC: What has been the highlight of your career to date?
Ken: Before we contracted the factories that we use to help produce our bags, we made everything ourselves by hand. In 2007 Neiman Marcus contacted us and wanted to include one of our styles in their Incircle Catalog. A very big deal for us considering we were still making these in our 900 sq. ft. home at the time.
|

TBC: What are your sources for inspiration when designing?
Ken: Stephanie Johnson, Bottega Veneta, Little Earth.
|

| Thanks so much Ken and Angela for stopping by the cafe today and sharing your gorgeous handbags with us....it was truly a pleasure having you here today....and in true cafe style...one lucky cafe reader is going to win one of the beautiful bags featured today...I won't tell you which one....l want the winner to be surprised.....all you have to do is visit Passchal's site and check out their gorgeous collection and come back to the cafe and leave a comment letting me know which one is a "must have".....the winner will be announced on Monday, January 18th....and if my co-worker Linda is reading this....no you cannot enter to win.....xoxoxo

Oh, So Pretty: Bridesmaid Dresses

It's always so fun when I meet with a client and I ask if she has a picture of her dress and the bridesmaid......I find myself breathing a sigh of relief when I see how beautiful the dresses are for the ladies....I often times get flashbacks from the "I can't believe I actually wore that" bridesmaid dresses that use to hang in my closet years ago.....now the dresses are just simply beautiful and the best part about it.....they can be worn after the wedding....they have beautiful color palettes.....and they don't all have to have the same look for each of the ladies. I thought it would be fun to find out what is your style when it comes to the bridesmaid dresses.....check out the collection below and let me know what's your "style"!!
Let's begin with CONTESTANT #1..........Image courtesy of Jesse Leake!
